The "Sexy Girls read long books" Book Club- We need to talk about Kevin

Those of you who know me will not be at all surprised by my first entry  into my book club. "We need to talk about Kevin" by Lionel Shriver is one of the most remarkable books I have ever read in my life. It actually  rather changed me, I felt as though something had ignited within me. This book is the fictional story of a boy named Kevin Khatchadourian, now known as the K.K. killer. Kevin became one of all too many high school students who went on a killing spree at his school killing 12 students and faculty. The story, however is not so much about Kevin as it is about his mother, Eva. Eva was an educated,  very cultured and very happy woman who had her own company. She was skeptical about motherhood when her husband first mentioned it to her but decided to give in, and they had Kevin. Eva knew from the very beginning that Kevin did not like life, let alone his parents. She was able to detect in the slightest of his actions from the very beginning his malice, from the way he would cry constantly non-stop when she was with him and stop when he was with his father,  Frank, to the way he massacred his 4th birthday cake. She knew the truth, or did she? Was she the only one who saw the real Kevin? Or did she simply over react to every little thing he did and take it personally because she never truly wanted him? That is the question that Lionel Shriver tries to answer in  her amazing book, written as letters from Eva to her husband Frank. I really cant describe why or how much I loved this book but it touched me in a way that no other book has, and for these reasons  I  encourage you all to pick it up, read it and be AMAZED.
