Tasty Tuesday- Vegetarian Cooking and Lavender Strawberry Muffins

So my first post on cooking is not only going to be a recipe like I plan on it being normally but also on why I will make the choices I'll make in my recipe section. They will be all vegetarian recipes and believe it or not that is a result of my belief in feminism. Now let me start by saying that I know it is possible to not be vegetarian and to be a feminist, completely possible. For me though, recently I have been reading a lot in the news about the correlation between women's rights and animal rights and though I think it is not against feminism to eat meat I think it is a feminist act to refuse to eat it. Now like a lot of feminists before I started seeing these things I was a little jaded about animal rights because of the disgusting, degrading and all around illogical things that P.E.T.A do to get their so called "message" across. Personally, I think they just want to get attention, they are the Paris Hilton of charity organizations if you want my opinion. So I was a little unfazed by the animal rights crisis in our world today. Until I read a post on one of my favorite news blogs called Deeply Problematic. It said that it is a feminist act not to eat meat because feminism, real feminism like that you read about from activist and in books written by feminist activists and journalists, focuses not just on the rights of women but on spreading equal rights for all people in the world. And whether you are a feminist or a misogynist, a vegetarian or a rabid carnivore you cant deny that animals do get grossly mistreated in our society from animal cruelty in slaughterhouses to the way they are mass-produced, force fed and pumped with hormones, though I don't think is un-feminist or even wrong in any way to eat meat it is contributing to wrong doing in our society because of the way we get it. Unless of course you go straight to a farm which is not as convenient or as financially realistic for most people. So that is my feminist defense of vegetarianism and with that here is your first recipe.

Lavender- Strawberry Muffins

1 1/2 c. vanilla soymilk
3/4 c. Maple Syrup
1 1/2 tbsp. Lavender
1 c. applesauce

1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp baking soda
1/2 c. strawberries
1/4 canola oil

Put soy milk, syrup, applesauce and lavender on the stove in a medium size pot and bring to a boil. When finished sift lavender pieces out of the milk mixture and set aside to cool. Mix dry ingredients with strawberries add milk mix and oil and mix together. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes, cool and serve and Enjoy!!
